Faucet & Sink Installation Honolulu

Dripping faucets, new sinks, garbage disposals and fixtures chosen to hold up in salt air.

A kitchen faucet that drips all night. A bathroom vanity sink that drains slowly and smells a little off. A chrome spout in a Hawaii Kai townhouse that has gone pitted and green at the base after a few years of trade winds blowing in off Maunalua Bay. These are the everyday jobs that fill our week, and they are the reason we handle faucet and sink installation in Honolulu as a real specialty instead of an afterthought.

Plumber Honolulu Hawaii works out of 2970 E Manoa Rd, up in Manoa Valley a short way mauka of Manoa Marketplace. If something at your sink, tub spout, hose bib or laundry tub is leaking, sticking or simply worn out, Call (808) 649-6750 and tell us what you are seeing.

We keep the trust part simple. We are a local company based in Manoa, and we answer the phone. Hawaii requires plumbing work to be done by plumbers licensed through the state DCCA Board of Electricians and Plumbers, and plumbing contracting businesses carry a C-37 specialty contractor license from the Contractors License Board, so it is fair for any homeowner to ask to see a license and look it up on the DCCA site. Before we start, we explain in plain English what is wrong, what we recommend and what it will involve.

Faucet and Sink Installation in Honolulu

Most fixture calls fall into two groups. The first is repair: a single-handle kitchen faucet that drips because its cartridge has worn, a two-handle bathroom faucet with tired washers or seats, a pull-down sprayer hose that leaks under the cabinet, a garbage disposal that hums but will not turn. The second is replacement and installation: a new kitchen sink and faucet during a counter upgrade, a vanity swap in a condo bathroom, a laundry tub added in a carport.

Faucet repair in Honolulu is usually worth trying first when the faucet body is sound. Many quality faucets use replaceable cartridges, and swapping one often fixes both drips and stiff handles for a fraction of the cost of a new unit.

Fixture installation in Honolulu also means paying attention to everything behind the faucet. The supply stops (the small shut-off valves under the sink), the braided supply lines, the P-trap and the drain connection all age faster here than people expect. We check them as part of every job because a beautiful new faucet hooked to a seized valve and a frayed line is not really a finished install.

Serving Neighborhoods Throughout Honolulu

Our own valley, 96822, is a mix of older single-family homes, small multi-unit buildings and rentals near the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Sinks in student rentals take hard use, and older Manoa houses often still have original shut-off valves that have not been turned in decades.

Kaimuki, Kapahulu, Diamond Head and St. Louis Heights (96816) include many Craftsman bungalows built between the 1910s and 1940s with single-wall, tongue-and-groove construction. In those homes, supply pipes may be exposed along a wall or run under a raised floor instead of hidden behind drywall. That changes how we approach a sink replacement: we may be working from the crawlspace, and older galvanized steel or early copper lines sometimes need a careful transition before a modern faucet can be connected.

Waikiki (96815), Ala Moana and Kakaako (96814), and McCully and Moiliili (96826) are condo territory. More than 60 percent of Oahu residents live in condos, and in a high-rise a leak at a kitchen sink does not stay in one unit. Downtown and Chinatown (96813), Nuuanu and Liliha (96817), and Kalihi and Salt Lake (96819 and 96818) bring a range from older walk-ups to mid-century houses with original plumbing.

East Honolulu is different again. Aina Haina, Niu Valley and Kuliouou (96821) have many hillside and valley homes from the postwar decades. Hawaii Kai (96825), Oahu's first planned community, was built from 1959 onward around a dredged marina, with single-family construction peaking in the 1980s.

How Local Conditions Affect Faucet and Fixture Plumbing in Honolulu

Salt air and humidity

Green valley and mountain ridge on Oahu

Pipes never freeze in Honolulu; the record low is 52 degrees F. The enemies here are salt and moisture. Salt air and steady humidity speed up corrosion of fixture hardware, exposed copper, galvanized pipe, hose bibs and supply valves, and the effect is strongest near the coast in Hawaii Kai, Kahala, Waikiki, Ewa Beach and Kailua. You see it as pitting on chrome trim, green crust on brass, handle screws that strip when you try to remove them and stop valves that will not close in an emergency.

Water quality from the volcanic aquifer

The Board of Water Supply draws roughly 90 percent of its water from groundwater stored in volcanic basalt. That water is soft to slightly hard, roughly 2 to 5 grains per gallon depending on the area, with Honolulu around 4 and Kailua and Kaneohe softer. So scale is far less of a problem than on the mainland, and cartridges here tend to wear out from use and age rather than mineral buildup. Sediment still happens, though, especially after any work on the water main or inside a building. Aerators clog, spray patterns go sideways, and a quick cleaning of the aerator screen restores flow more often than people realize.

Condo rules and permits

Most Honolulu condo associations make owners responsible for "high-risk components," which typically include supply lines, shut-off valves and dishwasher lines. Braided lines that are old or kinked and stop valves that do not seal are exactly the parts an association will ask about after a leak.

On permits, the City and County of Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) handles plumbing permits for all of Oahu through its HNL Build system. A straight like-for-like swap, such as one faucet for another in the same spot, is often exempt. Adding a new fixture, such as a sink where there was none or a new laundry tub, generally needs a plumbing permit, and work is done under the Uniform Plumbing Code as amended by the state and the city. We explain what your job needs and coordinate so the work is inspected when inspection is required.

Our Faucet, Fixture and Sink Options in Honolulu

Dripping faucets and cartridge replacement

A steady drip wastes water and, at a kitchen sink, can wear a stain into the basin. Single-handle faucets usually drip because of a worn cartridge or O-rings; older two-handle styles use washers and seats. We identify the brand and model, match the correct cartridge and replace worn seals.

Kitchen sink and faucet installation

Kitchen sink repair in Honolulu covers leaking basket strainers, loose faucets that rock on the deck, cracked drain tailpieces and pull-down sprayers that drip into the cabinet. For a full kitchen sink and faucet installation, we set the sink, mount the faucet, install new supply lines and stops where needed, and rebuild the drain and trap so everything lines up cleanly.

Bathroom vanity sinks and faucets

Vanity swaps are common in condo bathrooms around Waikiki and Ala Moana and in older homes being updated in Manoa and Kaimuki. We handle undermount, drop-in and vessel sinks, widespread and single-hole faucets, pop-up drains and traps. If the project grows into a shower or tub update, our bathroom plumbing and shower repair page covers that side of the room.

Garbage disposals

A disposal that hums, trips its reset button or leaks from the bottom is near the end of its life. We repair what can be repaired, clear jams, fix leaking flanges and drain connections, and install replacements sized for how your household cooks.

Choosing finishes and materials for salt air

What holds up best near the ocean? Solid brass bodies generally outlast plated plastic or zinc, and quality finishes resist pitting better than bargain chrome. Under the sink, quality stainless braided supply lines and quarter-turn stop valves are worth the small extra cost, because they are the parts that fail quietly. We are happy to talk through options before you buy a fixture so you do not end up replacing it in a few years. Call (808) 649-6750 before you shop and we can talk it through.

Aerators, supply stops and supply lines

These small parts cause outsized trouble. A clogged aerator makes a good faucet look weak. A corroded multi-turn stop can refuse to close when you finally need it. A braided line that is old, kinked or rusting at the crimp can let go without warning.

Outdoor hose bibs, lanai sinks and outdoor showers

Outdoor fixtures take the full force of sun, salt and rain. Hose bibs in Ewa Beach, Kailua and Hawaii Kai often corrode at the threads or start leaking through the stem. We replace bibs, repair outdoor showers by the lanai or garden, and install lanai and potting sinks.

Laundry tubs and utility sinks

A laundry tub in the carport or garage is handy for rinsing beach gear and fishing equipment. We install new tubs, replace worn faucets on old ones and fix leaking traps.

Our Honolulu Fixture Installation Process

  1. A phone conversation first

When you call, we ask what fixture it is, what it is doing and roughly how old the home or building is. Photos of the faucet and the space under the sink help if you can text them after the call.

  2. On-site look and plain-English options

At the house or unit, we check the fixture, the stops, the supply lines and the drain, plus the cabinet floor for signs of old leaks. Then we explain what we found and give you options, repair versus replace, before any work starts.

  3. Permit and building check

If the job is a like-for-like swap, it is usually straightforward. If you are adding a fixture or moving one, we explain what DPP generally requires and coordinate so the work can be inspected when needed.

  4. Careful installation

We shut off water at the closest working valve, protect the cabinet and counter, and install the fixture with fresh supply lines and stops where appropriate.

  5. Testing and clean-up

We run hot and cold, check every connection for weeping, fill and drain the sink to test the trap, and clean the aerator before we go. Old parts leave with us, and we show you where your shut-offs are.

Local Project Experience

Our fixture work happens in the kinds of places you would expect across urban Honolulu: kitchens in single-wall bungalows, vanities in mid-century Manoa houses, small bathrooms in McCully and Moiliili walk-ups, high-rise condo kitchens in Waikiki and Kakaako where every valve matters to the neighbors below, and East Honolulu homes where salt air is hard on outdoor taps. The common thread is age and environment. Many homes built before the 1980s still have galvanized steel or older copper supply lines, and coastal homes wear out finishes faster than anywhere on the mainland. We approach each sink with that in mind, so the fixture you choose has sound plumbing behind it. If you have a water heater question while we are there, our water heater repair and installation service covers that.

Nearby Communities We Serve

Kailua (96734) and Kaneohe on the windward side get softer water and steady trade winds, and Kailua's beach neighborhoods see plenty of corroded hose bibs and outdoor showers. Aiea (96701) and Pearl City have many hillside homes and townhouses from the postwar building boom. Ewa Beach (96706) is flat, dry and coastal, where outdoor fixtures face salt and sun every day. Kapolei (96707) is newer, with many homes built in recent decades, so fixture work there is more often upgrades than repairs. Waipahu (96797) and Mililani (96789) round out central Oahu, with Mililani's planned subdivisions sitting higher and a little cooler.

Frequently Asked Questions About Faucet and Sink Installation in Honolulu

How much does faucet and sink installation in Honolulu cost?

It depends on what is involved. A cartridge replacement is a small job. A new faucet on a sink with working stops and good lines is moderate. A kitchen sink and faucet install that needs new stops, new supply lines, a rebuilt trap or a transition from galvanized pipe costs more. We look first and explain the options and costs before starting, so there are no surprises.

Should I repair my dripping faucet or replace it?

If the faucet body is solid and parts are available, a cartridge or washer repair often makes sense. If the finish is pitting from salt air, the base is corroded, or the model is discontinued, replacement is usually the better spend.

Do I need a permit to replace a faucet or sink in Honolulu?

A straight like-for-like replacement is often exempt from a DPP plumbing permit. Adding a new fixture, such as a lanai sink, a laundry tub or an outdoor shower where none existed, generally does need a permit. We explain what your specific job requires and coordinate so it is inspected when needed.

Why does my faucet have weak flow when Honolulu water is soft?

Honolulu's groundwater is soft to slightly hard, so heavy scale is uncommon. Weak flow is more often sediment caught in the aerator screen or cartridge, especially after a main break or building water shutdown.

What should condo owners in Waikiki or Kakaako replace first?

Start with the supply lines and shut-off valves under your sinks. Most associations call these high-risk components and hold the owner responsible for them. Replacing old braided lines and stuck multi-turn valves is inexpensive compared with the damage a failure can cause to units below.

Can you work on older Kaimuki and Manoa homes with exposed pipes?

Yes. Many Kaimuki bungalows have single-wall construction with supply lines on the wall surface or under a raised floor. We work from below when needed and make careful transitions where old galvanized or early copper meets new fittings.

How quickly can I get help with a leaking sink?

Call us any time and tell us what is leaking. If water is actively spraying, close the stop valve under the sink or the main shut-off first. For leaks that are causing damage now, see our emergency plumber page as well.
